Photograph No. 174 of a Class B1 4-6-0 with a train was published at page 244, September/October 2014 Journal. In the following January/February edition, page 31, we published such information as available but the location was not known. We suggested that as the previous photograph in this series (WWW 173, Journal pages 188 and 245), also by W.A. Camwell, which showed a 3-car DMU set at Collingham station on the Newark - Lincoln line, and as the photograph of the B1 appears to be from the same film it may have been taken on the same visit to Lincolnshire.
Nigel Wassell has advised that the group of buildings visible at the far end of the platform to the left of the train seem to bear a marked resemblance to the station buildings (which he believes still exist) at Swinderby, which is the next station north of Collingham on the Newark - Lincoln line. Knowing the way in which Cam tended to approach his station photography expeditions in the early sixties (i.e. proceeding from station to station on a line-by-line basis), this seems to be the most likely location.
Readers who can provide further details about the above pictures should e-mail: slsphotocollect@btinternet.com or write to K. Greenwood, Bradstones, Charlton Road, Holcombe, Bath, Somerset, BA3 5ER.
