Former LMS 4-4-0 40932 on a five coach passenger train.
Answer to 161 Page 185, July/August 2012 ‘Journal’, Negative No.18736.
The photograph shows 4-4-0 40932 on the down main LM Birmingham-Bristol line just down from Hatherley Junction. The Hatherley Junction signals can just be made out above Hatherley Lane road bridge in the distance. The Cheltenham-Standish Junction lines, originally part of the South Wales Railway, are shown on the right. The two routes now share a conventional double track route between Standish Junction and Gloucester.
40932 was allocated to Gloucester Barnwood (22B) from March 1953 until withdrawn in the period 21 April-19 May 1956 which dates the photograph. The five coach train of ex LMS stock would be a Birmingham to Gloucester semi fast.
The photograph was taken by R. Hewitt.
