From the May/June 2011 Journal - Mystery photo number 3
The question oringinally posed was - this photograph of the iconic Birmingham Area Railtour of 3 June 1950 was taken by W.A. Camwell (‘Cam’) on his first rail tour and consisted of a trip up the Harborne branch, the first passenger train to Harborne since 1934; the Soho Road Circle and the Aston Loop. This photograph was taken on the Harborne branch but its location is unknown. If ‘Cam’ was on the train was this some sort of ‘run-past’?
Subsequent information came to light that "Cam" sometimes loaned his cameras and therefore some Camwell photos were effectively commisioned by him, it is therefore probable he was on the train as it was being photographed. As for location details the RMWeb members again gave vaulable information. The house in the background is 17 Woodbourne Road, still recognisable on Google. The train is heading towards Harborne.
Readers who can provide any further details of the picture(s) including location and date should write to K. Greenwood, Bradstones, Charlton Road, Holcombe, Somerset. BA3 5ER. (Email contact not available)
